Tonight is the monthly First Wednesday Wallingford Art Walk. Looks like we’re have an unusually warm November evening, so enjoy the stroll!

This month Tara Shuttleworth becomes the new art walk chair. She sent this note:

We are in the process of updating the website and the Art Walk Map. On the website you can find the new members of the board as well as our active volunteer. Katie McCallister from Museum Quality Framing will be taking over as Co-Chair, Page Eaton from Julia’s Restaurant will be taking over as Web Master and Graphic Designer and our active volunteer, Suzanna Wheeler, will be in charge of Music Promotion and Coordination.

We are in the process of updating the Art Walk Map as well. Re-Leaf Massage, Seattle Bank, Tangerine, Harold’s Lamps & Shades, Murphy’s Pub and Radiant Med Spa are no longer participating. Seattle Bank and Harold’s Lamps & Shades will be back in the summer time. The map still has these businesses on it so make sure to cross them off when enjoying the November Art Walk. I have attached information on businesses and the artists they will be showcasing. Katie, Page, Suzanna and I have wonderful creative energy to give to the Art Walk…..expect this monthly event to shine bright this winter……STAY TUNED!

Highlights from this month’s art walk:

Teahouse Kuan Yin (1911 North 45th Street): Seattle-based photographer Barry Wong uses palettes inspired by his Asian-American heritage – the vibrant green of shiso leaves or the warm reds of pomegranates – in creating his fine art photographs. “In my images, there are echoes of my parents’ kitchen where as youngsters, my sisters and I learned about fresh   ingredients and Cantonese cooking. Basic to that Southern Chinese culinary tradition is a reverence for the essence of an ingredient.” A former photojournalist, Wong says “in my documentary work, I captured life on a grand scale – erupting volcanoes, earthquakes, conflict and foreign cultures. In my still life photographs, I’m celebrating the beauty of the everyday.” His images were featured in a recent exhibition at Seattle’s City Hall and his photographs are represented worldwide by Getty Images

Windows Art Gallery (4131 Woodland Park Avenue North):  “Odyssey Articles” is a unique exhibition, of two emerging Northwest artists: Mayumi Terao and Alison Farmer. The show, running through November at the Windows Art Gallery in Wallingford, is alive with reflections of journeys by sea and spirit, by two very different artists, but close, artists.

Trophy Cupcakes (Wallingford Center): Matthew Porter (parents, his work will look very familiar)

Wallingford Center, 1st floor corridor: M. Wynne York Abstract Painting. “Currently in my work I am focusing on process and layering, which creates a world that is deep and captivating. Each piece depends on its many layers to create depth, light, motion and space. By slowly building up the surface of each work, subtle differences are created, allowing the viewer to get a small look into the world that lies within and underneath.”

Seattle Mosaic Arts (1325 North 46th Street): Mosaic artist Crystal Thomas.  She is a very talented, established mosaic artist from Woodinville and we are very excited to show her work here at Seattle Mosaic Arts.  We are also excited that she will be teaching a weekend workshop at the studio on mosaic design with a focus on cutting, laying and color techniques.  (Nov 13-14th).  Check out our website for class details (www.seattlemosaicarts.com)

Oasis Art Gallery (3644 Wallingford Avenue North):  Traversing Realms’ exhibition.  Meet the featured artists during the Wallingford Art Walk.

Dandelion Salon (1318 North 45th Street): Will Alton

Rain Sushi (2208 North 45th Street): Michael Profitt

Amy Wells, ND (4426 Burke Ave. N.): This month I have 5 artists! Mamas With Cameras present “Through the Eyes of a Mother,” photographs that document the world of children from the perspective of the mother. This collection is a sampling of the exhibit that was created by the group in honor of Mother’s Day.
