Where to watch the World Cup in Wallingford

As all soccer fans know, the month-long sporting event that tops the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series and all others combined begins on June 11. Every four years we lose our footie-obsessed friends to the World Cup for four weeks. Where do they go, often at odd hours? You might try looking in some of these Wallingford spots that will show the matches live (except those 4:30 a.m. ones — you’ll have to go to the George and Dragon in Fremont at that hour).

Murphy’s (1928 N. 45th St.) will open at 6:45 a.m. every morning and feature the matches in 3D (you have to rent special glasses). This may be the only spot in town that will have the World Cup in 3D.

The Iron Bull (2121 N. 45th St., formerly Goldie’s) has the most screens of any Wallingford bar and will open at 7:00 a.m. every day to show matches on their projector TVs, as well as on its smaller TVs.

Selena’s Guadalajara (1715 N. 45th St.) will serve up breakfast specials to accompany the matches when they open at 7 a.m. daily.

Elysian Tangletown (2106 N. 55th St.) will open at 6:30 a.m. for certain World Cup matches. See the schedule here (scroll down for the Tangletown list).

Kate’s Pub (309 NE 45th St.) will open early  for certain matches (e.g., the US-England match on Saturday, June 12).

Of course, if you prefer to watch the World Cup from the comfort of your home or office (we really don’t recommend the latter but realize it does happen), ESPN3.com will play most of the matches.
