To mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (today), here’s a suggestion: Make a plan to walk to any weekend events. If you live in Wallingford, that would make for a pretty full weekend, bracketed by community food-related happenings:
Friday
Meet your neighbors, make some delicious dumplings, and enjoy them for dinner and beyond at the Wallingford Community Kitchen. RSVP is required.
Fan of the Candy Man? Take in “Willy Wonka Junior” at St. Benedict’s School.
Saturday
Meridian Market celebrates its third anniversary and offers up a whole bunch of freebies, including drip coffee, lemonade and cake; balloons and treat sacks for the kids; and samples from their vendors. Don’t mind paying a bit? In the morning they’ll have a buffet breakfast and in the evening they’ll serve up barbecue and have a Deschutes beer tasting.
Have the kids get out their wiggles, enjoy some great music, and help out FamilyWorks and the Boys and Girls Club with the Not-Its, 4-5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club.

Sunday
The Wallingford Senior Community Center, which came back from the brink of closure thanks to the community, invites all to its “New Start” pancake breakfast. The cakes come off the griddle from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the lower level of the Good Shepherd Center.
