Last week, the Seattle Police Department conducted a crosswalk enforcement patrol at the corner of N. 41st St. and Stone Way North. The September 30 patrol resulted in 39 citations. The SPD Blotter reported that 34 right-of-way citations were given, and five citations were given for cell phone use, driving without a valid driver’s license, and expired vehicle tabs. The SPD also patrolled the corner of Dravus and Nickerson, where 15 right-of-way citations and two citations for no proof of insurance and expired vehicle tabs were issued.

From the SPD Blotter:

The Seattle Police Department encourages all motor vehicle operators and bicyclists to be familiar with and obey all local and state traffic laws and to always drive with due regard for all others on the roadway.

  1. Our tax dollars at work! Thanks SPD, I feel so much safer now that you are enforcing the crosswalks but still not reeling in your violent police officers!!

  2. How many jaywalking warnings/tickets were issued for pedestrians crossing the street illegally? Or for bicycles not yielding the right of way?

  3. Maybe you need to work with the SPD to have this type of enforcement set up in a location where you are concerned this is taking place. I suppose bitching on a blog is easier for you.

  4. Received a citation last year on capital hill…..to me when driving up to the enforcement area it looked like a crowd watching police activity or a fire, numerous patrol cars with flashing lights and plain clothed officers just standing around(after getting the ticket I drove around to watch how they were working)..the magistrate had compassion and at least reduced the fine…It wasn't like I didn't slow way down….a violation none the less…I'm still shy every time I see a body near the curb…stop? go?
