Cyclists in Wallingford will soon have an alternative to the busy N. 45th St. arterial. The city of Seattle has decided to put $110,000 into creating a viable route for cyclists that avoids heavy traffic, according to a Seattle Times article.
Draft of Seattle Greenways and bikeways
In August, we reported that Wallingford would be the first neighborhood in Seattle to get a greenways project. Cathy Tuttle from Spokespeople, an advocacy group for bike facilities in neighborhoods that organizes rides for newer riders told us, “The whole idea for Greenways was [for them to] be one street off from the main arterial, located close to businesses and places people like to go.”
The Seattle Neighborhood Greenways website says the route is based on Spokespeople recommendations. “SDOT has designated a route from NE 44th from 5th Avenue N. to Burke Avenue N. The route then jogs down one block south to 43rd for crossing at Wallingford Avenue, and then continues down 43rd to Stone Way.”
