This Friday, October 21, McDonald Elementary in Wallingford will participate in the second annual Move-a-Thon to raise funds for the school. A group of mostly kindergarten and first-graders will walk or run laps around the Wallingford Playfield with a special guest: the Mariner Moose will also join in on the fun.
McDonald Elementary just opened last year, and has since tripled in size. The elementary serves 190 K-5 students from Wallingford and surrounding neighborhoods. “This is our budding new school’s major fall fundraiser. We hope to be able to fund programs that will greatly enhance our children’s scholastic experience,” said Move-a-Thon organizer Jennifer Sill-Reichert. “We are coming together as a community to make a difference. And the kids get to play a role in all this and have fun at the same time!”
McDonald is housed in Lincoln High School, but will move to its new location at N. 54th and Latona next fall when renovation is complete. The PTA hopes to raise $40,000 to support student programs. The money will go to the PTA general fund, which will in turn support programs such as literacy tutors, classroom grants for supplies and teaching aids, field trips, and the arts program.
The elementary hopes to gain more business sponsors. To learn more, visit the McDonald PTA website.
