Northwest International Student Exchange (NWISE), a group that aims to promote international understanding and goodwill, is looking for host families to house teenagers from Chengdu City, in the Szechuan Provence of China.
NWISE is hosting a summer camp from July 21 to August 8th in Wallingford and wants local families to take in teachers or one to three students.
What potential host families should know:
We have the Chinese students in class and activities all class days (every weekday) and so families just need to provide room and board between 1 and 2 week of their stay and a safe, loving environment in the evenings and weekends. You can host half of the time or all of the time. We also are looking for welcome families that just host the first weekend if you cannot host a week or more but want to participate- we need you.
For more information on NWISE either click here or email: nw.student.exchange@gmail.com or call: 509-879-0459.
I wish someone would look into these programs.
This is a for-profit company looking for volunteers to spend money so
that the company can make money. A bit strange. How much are they
charging these kids for their free 2-week stay in the US? How closely are the families vetted??
Aaron,
I had to have a criminal background check done, plus they visited my home and interviewed me. And it gives me a chance to learn about their culture, too, which is something that interests me since I plan to travel to China in the next few years. The organization provides activities during the day, including ESL classes, so they are providing a service, not just dumping them off on host families.
