With the unofficial start of summer this weekend, you may wonder what’s happened to the Wallingford Farmers Market, which has always commenced in mid-May. This year the market will begin June 1 at a new location on the west side of Meridian Park (officially called Meridian Playground).
Signs in central Wallingford call the location “Good Shepherd Center,” but the market won’t take place at the Good Shepherd Center Building or the immediate area.
This new location can accommodate up to 74 stalls, but it lacks the visibility of the market’s previous Wallingford Center location. Also pluses: the playground for the kids, and plenty of space to picnic after visiting the market.
Market hours will be 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. for the public; this year the market will offer special chef-only shopping from 3:00 to 3:30.
Love those cooking demonstrations by acclaimed neighborhood chefs? You’ll be able to catch them 4:00-5:00 p.m. most Wednesdays. Here are the chefs who have been booked thus far:
June 1: Chef Dustin Ronspies, Art of the Table
June 8: Chef Jason Brzozowy, Tilth
