Wednesdays in Wallingford

Our neighbors to the west have launched “Tuesdays in Ballard,” a Merchants Association effort to get people shopping and dining on a day that’s not usually at the top of the list. (Disclosure: Tuesdays in Ballard is a My Wallingford advertiser.)

In the summer, there’s so much happening in our neighborhood on “hump day” that we may as well brand it “Wednesdays in Wallingford.” Nice alliterative ring.

First up, the Wallingford Playfield wading pool opens Wednesdays for just three days a week. Hours are noon to 7:00 p.m.

From 3:00 to 7:00, the weekly Farmers Market sells fresh produce and artisanal prepared foods in the south parking lot of Wallingford Center. Plus, there’s a chef demo almost every week. Today, Tilth’s Chef de Cuisine Larkin Young will cook at 4:00 (perhaps something French-inspired in honor of Bastille Day?).

Inside Wallingford Center, many merchants offer 10%-off deals for Farmers Market  shoppers.

Bring your Farmers Market finds over to Avila (1711 N. 45th St.), where they’re game for a challenge:

YOU bring in an ingredient bought at the market (anything from a sprig of thyme to a pork roast) WE create an impromptu 3-course meal centered around your ingredient & pair it with 2 glasses of wine. It’s a steal at $25/person and a whole lotta fun.

The Wallingford Art Walk is also the first Wednesday of every month.

Are we missing any “Wednesdays in Wallingford” specials or events? Share them in the comments.
