Yes, the fireworks on Sunday night are the star of this weekend, but there are quite a few other things happening…

Start off the long weekend frugally with free drip coffee at Tully’s Friday morning, 7 to 10 a.m. Barista drinks are buy one, get one free through Monday.

In Fremont this Saturday, thousands of zombies will take to the streets in search of fresh brains and a Guinness World Record. Read all about it on Fremont Universe.

Prefer to be among the living? The monthly Spokespeople ride will leave from Wallingford Playfield at 2 p.m. and go to Fremont Peak Park and back. The ride is relatively easy, and the group will stop in the park to toast the 22nd wedding anniversary for Spokespeople Ride Leaders Cathy Tuttle and David Notkin.

Studies in Forgiveness, a free full-day, outdoor, live art event, will be lining Aurora Ave N and circling Green Lake this Saturday, July 3, 2010, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Read more about it on My Green Lake.

Need treats for the weekend? Mighty-O Donuts will sell its blueberry fritter for the 4th of july weekend through the month of July. As you might expect, they use local blueberries.

Once Independence Day arrives, kids will have a parade that begins at McDonald School Playground (N. 54th and Latona). At 9 a.m. they’ll make flags, at 9:30 they’ll parade around the block. Cake and lemonade will be served.

The Family 4th festivities at Gas Works Park begin at noon and run straight through till the fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Wallingford businesses Not a Number, Trophy Cupcakes and Fuerte Fitness will offer activities during the day.

If you want to be among the throngs for the fireworks, head to Gas Works Park on foot, bike or bus. We’ve found that Wallingford Ave. offers lots more elbow room and less noise for the little ones when the explosives start. But it won’t have Porta Potties this year.

Enjoy your weekend!
