You may need to leave work early on Wednesday — there’ll be a lot happening at Wallingford Center. The farmers market returns from 3 to 7 in the south end of the parking lot. It has a smaller section of the lot than in years past because new businesses needed the parking space for customers.

We checked in with market master Judy Kirkhuff about the lay of the land for opening day. She said the market will have 27 vendors: 16 farms and 11 artisan-made foods.

Chef demonstrations will also return. On opening day Rachel Yang from Joule will cook for the crowd. Next week will feature Amy McCray from Eva.

Before or after market shopping, bring the kids to Family Game Night at Izilla Toys, from 4 to 7. Here’s a description of the free event: “We’ll eat delicious Pudge Bros. Pizza, have refreshments and play some of our favorite new and classic games. This month we will be having a “Peanuts” (super fun card game) mini tournament!”

And we just learned from Sarah Stine at Fabric Crush that she’s arranged for all businesses there to offer a 10% discount to farmers market shoppers: “Each merchant will be offering their own variation on the 10% deal, for instance Fabric Crush will be offering 10% off your entire purchase (not including class sign-ups),” she wrote. To get the discount you’ll need to show the merchant your farmers market purchases, and it’s valid only on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 8:00.
