Sustainable Wallingford in the news

Cathy Tuttle, who heads up Sustainable Wallingford, a neighborhood group and umbrella organization for local programs concerned with climate, food, community building and much more, sent us an update on the group’s work this morning.

Take a look at the cover of this morning’s Seattle Times Weekend section to see a photo of Sustainable Wallingford Friends of Fruit Trees founder Barb Burrill and her son Carter — and a great article on Food Gardens and feeding the hungry that lists many programs based in Wallingford including Solid Ground’s Lettuce Link and Cascadian Edible Landscape’s Spring into Bed on May 8.

Barb will be busy this Saturday morning (when Sustainable Wallingford meets at Mosaic from 10-noon) at the John Stanford International School plant sale and e-recycling event.

Rachel Duboff, leader of Sustainable Wallingford’s Community Kitchen, was also written up this week in Seattle Woman Magazine. Make sure you RSVP now for next Friday’s Community Kitchen of Spring Soups & Quick Breads!

Spokespeople, another Sustainable Wallingford program that runs a monthly ride from Wallingford Playfield, helped to launch West Seattle Spokespeople on May 2 and appeared in the West Seattle Herald.

There is so much going on this Saturday May 8, but please do stop by Sustainable Wallingford’s monthly meeting at Mosaic from 10-noon. This is the last morning meeting of Sustainable Wallingford since Saturday mornings are becoming increasingly busy. Starting in June, we’ll meet monthly on a weeknight evening.

At Saturday’s meeting we’ll report in on various activities, including Transition Seattle, Meaningful Movies, Green Festival, Climate Action, and NW Community Kitchens. And we’re planning to apply for Neighborhood Matching Funds for updating our neighborhood plan so help us put together a great neighborhood plan proposal!
