Scenes from the Spring Clean

Yesterday was a soggy Saturday, but the weather didn’t deter 45-50 volunteers from their mission: beautify Wallingford.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Spring Cleaners (including 20 kids from the Boys and Girls Club) showed up to fan out along N. 45th Street and nearby streets to pick up cups, cans, straws, wrappers, cigarette butts, hubcaps, Botts’ dots, a weed whacker, and any other detritus that stood in their way.

After everyone returned their trash to Wallingford Center, Seattle City Councilmember Mike O’Brien, Sustainable Wallingford organizer Cathy Tuttle, Wallingford Neighborhood Office director Janet Stillman, and Wallingford Community Council vice president Jon DeLeeuw addressed the group.

  1. It's too bad that when I was walking down 45th this morning, there was already garbage on the ground! Cans, paper and cigarette butts. People have no respect, even if there is a garbage can right in front of them!
