Updated: After the big clean-up stick around Wallingford Center to hear new Seattle City Councilmember Mike O’Brien speak at 1 p.m. on green efforts and Earth Day (which is April 22). O’Brien chaired the local chapter of the Sierra Club for three years before running for office.
Getting that itch to clear out the closets, do a basement purge, and weed the garden? Be sure to add spiffing up your neighborhood to the spring cleaning list. Colleen Kurke, who’s on the board of the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and owns Cutz Meridian Salon, sent out this call for volunteers to help beautify Wallingford.
Calling ALL Wallingford businesses and residents young and old!
On April 17th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a rally on the patio at Wallingford Center kicking off the first “Operation Beautify Wallingford”!
This event is a Chamber-sponsored event that will happen 5 days before Earth Day (April 22, 2010).
The city of Seattle will donate gloves and bags for the workers. We will have coffee and water donated by local businesses available at the Wallingford Center. There will be maps of the areas to be cleaned. After the clean up we will put the garbage in a truck and take to the dump.
We want to encourage the business owners of Wallingford to keep their store fronts “kept up” all year around!
We are hoping for a few Earth Day events to take place immediately after the “clean up” that will be announced when it’s confirmed.
Thanks!
