After serving as an administrative office for Chow Foods for the past year, the former Jitterbug restaurant space across the street from the Guild 45th theater is getting spiffed up for a new eatery later this year. Chow’s Kate Perry told us, “We’re just in the concepting phase right now, but we are planning to open a restaurant in this location, probably in the summer.”
Chow Foods has a long history with the building: Back in 1988, Peter Levy and Jeremy Hardy collaborated on Beeliner Diner, their first in a string of restaurants (among them, The Hi-Life and 5 Spot) run by the company. In 1996 they expanded the space and rebranded the restaurant Jitterbug, then in 2005 it left the Chow family and went through two short-lived incarnations: Ebb ‘n’ Flow and Loki Cafe.
Perry didn’t know if the new restaurant would use the entire space or if administrative offices would remain in the former bar area.
