Update: Below is a map of the proposed changes.
Seattle Public Schools today announced a proposal to change the boundaries of John Stanford International School in Wallingford. Lesley Rogers from Seattle Public Schools says the number of students, “exceeds the optimal use of the rooms.”
“At JSIS, there is room for 16 homerooms, but 18 are currently in use. The current boundary for the John Stanford International School is unsustainable. With no boundary change, the situation worsens and there will be a need for 23 homerooms by fall 2014,” writes Rogers.
The proposal for the 2012-2013 school year will ensure incoming kindergarten siblings of students attending John Stanford who live in Area # 1 or # 2 will be guaranteed assignment to John Stanford. Also, students who live in Area #1 and who are not entering kindergarten siblings will be guaranteed assignment to McDonald. The proposal also offers a plan to bring the number of JSIS homerooms back to a sustainable level.
“Families have made it clear that language immersion programming is what they want for their students and they are moving to Wallingford/Green Lake for the program,” said School Board Dir. Sherry Carr.
The changes were presented at a PTA meeting and will be voted on by the full School Board on Jan. 18.
your link to the map isn't working
When will there be a bilingual school in the Phinney-Ballard area? We'd like our kids to have the same opportunities as those in Wallingford.
YES – link not working
I'm on it – thanks!

Where did you get the map? In this document from SPS, it shows the west boundary at Wallingford and not Corliss.

You should get involved with SPS. I don't think commenting here will make much of a difference. In Ballard you have Salmon Bay which is your alternative/option school. If you want something different for your cluster get moving. I think lots are over “typical” SPS public school curriculum, esp the math, but we need parent to speak up so changes are made. Don't get mad at the folks in Wallingford, get mad at SPS.
