Like to cook? Like to eat? Want to meet your neighbors? If you checked any or all of the above, the Wallingford Community Kitchen may be calling your name.
At the monthly gathering, organized around a theme, participants bring ingredients or cash to the Wallingford Senior Center (soon also to be Community Center) and slice, dice, mash and mix a meal for everyone to enjoy that night and take home for later.
April’s Community Kitchen dinner, on the 23rd at 5:30, will focus on dumplings the world over in celebration of Earth Day and spring. Organizer Rachel Duboff describes the unique community nature of dumpling preparation on the group’s Facebook page: “All over the world, dumplings are a sign of family and celebration. Most cultures have some form of traditional dumpling that is served during holidays or when big groups come together. Most of these dishes are somewhat labor intensive, bringing people of all generations together in preparing for the feast.”
Duboff isn’t yet positive which dishes the group will roll, fill and fold yet, but you can see a luscious list of possibilities on the Wallingford Community Kitchen’s Facebook page, where you can also RSVP for the event.
This is a great event. Matt Mason took some wonderful pictures of it for Wallyhood back in January you may want to check out, as well: http://www.wallyhood.org/2010/01/wallingford-co…
