The Wallingford Community Senior Center, which shut down in November 2009 for budget reasons, will continue to operate. Community support and a matching challenge grant of $25,000 from a Wallingford donor will help keep the center afloat.

Kathleen Cromp, WCSC’s executive director, said, “I am so touched by the generosity of this gift and the confidence in our potential that it represents. The donors’ intent is to invest in building a strong resource for this community, and to spur others to step forward in whatever way they can. We are honored to have this opportunity and will reach out widely to achieve matching funds over the coming months.” The center will begin to restore programs in April.

The senior center will explore more intergenerational programming and may incubate programs for a future Wallingford community center, senior-center board president Jim Stillman said at a recent community council meeting.

To celebrate the decision to keep the Wallingford Senior Center open, it will host a pancake breakfast on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Center.

  1. Please get permission to use the photos you have up, and credit your sources. You should know this as a journalist.

  2. Um, isn't this kind of repetitive? There is already a Walliford blog at Wallyhood.org. It's not like it's really THAT big a neighborhood that we need two.

And yeah, credit your sources – and NOT just in the photos. That would be rather good for copy/pasted and unsourced text too.

  3. Honey, we already have Wallyhood – can't you find another neighborhood? and please, as the others point out, credit your sources
