Our news partner The Seattle Times reports that Landmark Theatres chain owner Mark Cuban has put the 55-cinema arthouse empire up for sale. The Guild 45th is one of seven Landmark Theatres in Seattle (the others are the Egyptian, Harvard Exit , Metro, Seven Gables, Varsity and Crest). Cuban, who’s owned the chain since 2003, told Bloomberg News that he is “just testing the waters” and that he won’t sell unless the offer is “very, very compelling.”

In the past year two venerable Seattle theaters have shuttered or changed focus. The Uptown Theatre in Queen Anne closed last November, and the Neptune Theatre in the University District will become a live performance space.
