Goldie's gets new owners–and its old name

Expect Goldie’s Sports Bar to reopen by June 1 with new owners, a makeover, and its old name: The Iron Bull.

New proprietors Bernie McGuire and Gerald Simonsen opened the Rat and Raven in the U District in August 2009. Simonsen told SeattleMet.com that they’ll make cosmetic changes to the bar and offer pub fare.

When Goldie’s was on the market, agent Mike Meade told us that when it was established in the 1960s, The Iron Bull attracted a lot of students because bars weren’t allowed to open near the University of Washington campus.

  1. Ahhh..fond memories of Goldies. Had my first LEGAL beer there at midnight in August of '83. The doorman made me stand outside until midnight…classic!

  2. Played my first video games ever (mainly Ms. Pac Man) at Goldies in the early 80's; they use to have 2 for 1 games on Monday evenings. A good diversion, especially in the heavy recession of the early Reagan era.
