This afternoon Microsoft and Starbucks pledged to donate $250,000 ($125,000 each) to return fireworks to Lake Union and Gas Works Park this 4th of July. The catch: they’ll only donate if Seattle businesses and community members can raise the other $250,000 needed to put on the show.

The “save the fireworks” fundraiser began this morning on Dave Ross’s KIRO radio show. He’s collecting donations of $1000 or more. Since then, One Reel, which has produced the Family 4th fireworks event for more than 20 years, has put up a site that accepts donations at any level.

One Reel spokesperson Mikhael Williams told us this morning that all donations would need to be in by Monday.

(Full disclosure: Next Door Media, which powers MyWallingford.com, has donated to this fund.)
