If the warming weather has turned your thoughts to gardening, make this plan for the first day of spring, March 20: Seattle Tilth will do an earlier, small, indoor version of its popular Edible Plant Sale.

Tilth outreach coordinator Liza Burke says that the sale “encourages people to start growing year-round, since you can do that in this climate.” The event also feeds into the increasing excitement about growing food. Only plants appropriate for growing in spring will be available (i.e., no tomatoes).

The Early Spring Edible Plant Sale will be held at March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at At Warren G. Magnuson Park, Hangar 30. Burke says that Seattle Tilth shopped around various areas to do the Early Spring Plant Sale and decided to have it indoors rather than at Meridian Park, the site of the May Edible Plant Sale and next door to Tilth’s office. This sale will feature about a third the number of plants available at the later sale. The complete list is available on the Seattle Tilth site.
